A stem cell hair transplant is a new and modern treatment for hair loss and baldness. This treatment helps to slow down hair loss and allows the hair to start growing again. It uses special cells (stem cells) from the patient’s own scalp. These cells are usually taken from the back of the head, also known as the Hippocratic area.
The stem cells taken from this area are injected with a thin needle into the areas affected by hair loss. This treatment helps to counteract hair loss and allows new hairs to grow again. When this method is combined with a regular hair transplant, the chance that the body rejects the transplanted hairs is smaller. There is also less chance of complications.

Who is a stem cell hair transplant suitable for?
This treatment is suitable for both men and women who suffer from hereditary hair loss (also called androgenetic alopecia). It is usually recommended for men with hair loss up to and including stage 3 on the Hamilton scale, and for women with hair loss in stage 1 or 2 on the Ludwig scale.
Sometimes this treatment is combined with a regular hair transplant to achieve an even better result. Because this treatment is minimally invasive, people can often resume their daily activities straight away.
A solution for people with hair loss
A stem cell hair transplant is a good and affordable way to tackle hair loss. It gives men and women fuller hair and a natural look again.
* For men
In men, baldness usually starts on top of the head, at the crown or at the receding areas at the sides of the forehead. The hair there slowly becomes thinner and eventually falls out.
A stem cell hair transplant can counteract this process and strengthen the scalp. This treatment is especially suitable for men who have not yet lost a lot of hair.
* For women
Hair loss is also common in women. It usually starts at the hairline, the temples and the back of the head.
A stem cell treatment can help slow down hair loss, or be used alongside a hair transplant. This is particularly useful at an early stage, when the hairline is still almost in its original place – as in stage 1 or 2 on the Ludwig scale.
How does a stem cell hair transplant work?
First, it is assessed whether the person is suitable for the treatment. The doctor does this by examining the scalp carefully. Stem cells are then taken from the scalp with a small round instrument 2.5 millimetres wide. This is done under local anaesthesia, so it does not hurt.
The stem cells are then placed in a special container, the so-called Rigenera Kit, where they are mixed with a saline solution. The cells are then broken down and filtered, leaving a liquid with active cells. This is called the cell concentrate or lyophilisate.
This liquid is injected with a thin needle into the bald or thin areas of the head. The injections are almost painless.
Together with a regular hair transplant
A stem cell hair transplant can also be combined with a regular hair transplant. This gives faster and fuller results. It can also be combined with a laser light treatment for the hair.
Usually one session is enough to see a clear improvement. Hair density increases gradually. You will see the first results between 3 and 6 months after the treatment.
